Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/100-Tr VE.Can Solar Charge Controller

A solar charger collects energy from your solar panels and stores it in your batteries. Victron’s SmartSolar range uses advanced MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology to optimise energy harvest and deliver a faster, more efficient charge. This intelligent system ensures batteries reach full charge quickly while preserving long-term battery health. Unlike basic PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controllers that directly connect panels to batteries, MPPT controllers adjust input voltage for maximum energy transfer—even when panel and battery voltages don’t match.

MPPT controllers perform best in cooler climates and can continue charging efficiently in low-light or high-temperature conditions, where PWM may fall short. These controllers also feature built-in DC-DC converters, reducing energy loss during voltage conversion. As solar array size increases, MPPT becomes even more beneficial—supporting higher voltage setups, reduced cable thickness, and longer cable runs. For systems generating more than a few hundred watts, MPPT controllers are the ideal choice for reliable, high-performance solar charging.
